Here’s how my day went: poorly.
Actually, most of the day was fine, but then someone said something that, frankly, really hurt my feelings. I truly believe this person didn’t mean any harm, but the words still stung and my fragile little self-esteem took a beating.
But you know what? I found an unexpected confident boost in the strangest of places tonight: through an episode of The Mindy Project.
That’s right, Dr. Lahiri’s charm and I-don’t-give-a-flip attitude reminded me that I’m doing A-OK and shouldn’t let others’ opinions sway my view of self.
Let’s all take a minute to chat about why Dr. Mindy Lahiri is the coolest:
Her confidence is unparalleled.
She understands the importance of friendship.
She values honesty above all else.
And finally, homegirl’s style cannot be beat.
Let’s close with one of my favorite quotes from Mindy (Kaling, not Lahiri) that somewhat has to do with my day and also has nothing to do with it at all.
“As I got older, I got craftier and less obvious, but I’ve always put a lot of energy and effort into people liking me. That’s why I’ve never understood the compliment ‘effortless.’ People love to say: ‘She just walked into the party, charming people with her effortless beauty.’ I don’t understand that at all. What’s so wrong with effort, anyway? It means you care. What about the girl who ‘walked into the party, her determination to please apparent on her eager face’? Sure, she might seem a little crazy, and, yes, maybe everything she says sounds like conversation starters she found on a website, but at least she’s trying. Let’s give her a shot!”
Thanks for the pick-me-up, Mindy!
