Boredom > scrolling through blogs on the Internet > following links to health food websites > discovering recipes called “green goddess smoothies” > deciding that all you’ve ever wanted in life is to be a green goddess > realizing that one serving of said smoothie has half a paycheck’s worth of produce in it > coming to terms with being more of a brown cereal type of gal rather than a green goddess smoothie drinker
Well, I have a treat for you today. I’ve discovered a cheap + easy green smoothie recipe that is delicious and nutritious.
I have a Ninja blender that I use almost every day and truly love. I’ll be honest: the cleanup with a Ninja is not easy. In fact, if you’re in the market for a new blender and are looking into a Ninja, my best piece of advice would be to rinse immediately after using. It’s a great machine, but there are so many little divots on that thing , which makes washing really difficult. (Let’s also keep in mind that I don’t have a dishwasher, so that may be my primary problem.)Step 1: Add 1-1.5 cups of any type of milk. I’m lactose intolerant so I use almond milk and it tastes great! Always add the milk first because it’s the only measurement that really matters. Smoothies with too much milk = no bueno.Step 2: Add one frozen, sliced banana. Word to the wise: wait until the banana ripens to freeze it. Your taste buds will thank you. Step 3: Add 3 ice cubes. I know 3 is a specific number but I’ve experimented and this is definitely the ideal number.Step 4: Add a handful of greens.Step 5: Add 1 tbsp of PB2. If you’d prefer regular peanut butter or almond butter, that works too. But take my word for it—if you haven’t tried PB2, you should!Step 6: Add one tsp (or really, however much you can stomach) of apple cider vinegar. I have a love/hate relationship with this stuff. So good for you, but so hard to tolerate.Step 7: Add a pinch of cinnamon (optional)Step 8: Add a pinch of ground nutmeg (optional)Heyyyyyyy, good lookin’Blend the heck out of that stuff until smooth. And enjoy! Also, sipping through a straw is optional but definitely recommended.

Oh girl. Where did the days of brownie batter and pizookie go? I’m typing this as I’m drinking kombucha.
Also, apple cider vinegar scares me.
